An ambitious piece of eBooks work to be released very soon from HMDT
An eBook edition for iOS devices (iPhone, iPod touch and iPad) will be released soon by Japanese developer HMDT. Ambitious features are below:
- You can buy any chapter you want to buy. As you can pick and buy any songs from an album at iTunes Store.
- You can access and browse all of the contents before you purchase. As you can do it at a real estate bookstore.
- You can choose portrait view or landscape view. Text layouts and fonts automatically changes properly.
- You can copy any texts with no restrictions and no DRM.
- You can export this book to ePub format and you can read it on any devices you want. (Kindle!)
- Texts are under Creative Commons License.
- Integrated with Twitter client. Happy-quoting. Social-reading with hashtag #bkb20 and authors' timelines.
単純に電子化というだけなら、PDFにしておしまいでもありだよね。でもそれじゃ自炊するのと何も変わらないじゃん。この本の内容は、本の未来について様々な提言を行っているよね。じゃ、それ全部実現しない！？
おぉ、それだそれだ、それでいこう。という具合に話がまとまって、そこからはトントン拍子。だけどそこには、既存の出版社やいままでの著者の方だったら、絶対に同意しないだろうというものもあった。でもそこは、相談したらあっさりご快諾いただけた。やっぱりこうじゃないとな！ビジネスモデルだのリスクだの議論する前に、まずはあるべき姿を提示して、それに近づけていかないと。
現段階で電子書籍が「こうあるべきだ」と思われるものを、全部入れてみた。このうちのいくつかは、今後当然のものになるかもしれないし、なくなってしまうかもしれない。ただそこで手をこまねいて議論しているよりも、ものを作ってみないと分からないこともある。だからこうして形にして世に出して、意見を問うてみたい。
